Where can I take my old computer to be recycled?
Deschutes Recycling takes old computers, as well as televisions and other electronics to be recycled year round for the small fee of $3.00 for the first 30 pounds, and 10 cents a pound after the first 30 lbs. Call 388-1910 for information. Knott Landfill has a computer recycling day once a year, usually in October. Call 317-3163 for information.

What can I do with broken, un-repairable appliances?
Crook County Landfill (447-2398) takes appliances at the following rates: Stoves, washers, dryers, and dishwashers: $8. Refrigerators, air conditioners, and freezers: $15. Hot water tanks: $5
Deschutes Recycling, LLC (388-1910) takes old appliances. The appliances they take and their rates include the following: Computers: $3 up to 30 pounds, $0.10 for every pound over 30 pounds. Washers, dryers, kitchen stoves, and dishwashers: $9 Refrigerators and freezers: $14. Microwaves: $3
Madras Sanitary Service (475-2071) in Jefferson County generally will pick up any appliances and charges $10 for each. Refrigerators and Freezers are $15-20 each.
The Box Canyon Transfer Station (475-1983) in Madras takes any appliances and charges $5 plus another charge based on its weight. If you come in on the first weekend of the month they will only charge you $5 per appliance
What other options are there for material that I can’t recycle?
You can look up SWAP materials exchange of Central Oregon at www.oregonswap.org or call reSource for more information about SWAP at 388-3638. SWAP is a free program designed to prevent unwanted items from going to the landfill by helping businesses and individuals exchange and reuse unwanted materials.
You can go to the DEQ's NW Materialsmart website at www.nwmaterialsmart.org. They are an organization similar to SWAP that encourages materials exchange in the Northwest. BRING Recycling of Lane County also has a materials exchange website at www.bringrecycling.org.
On a larger scale, IMEX, an international industrial materials exchange web site, is a great place to look for businesses to exchange residual, used or surplus materials, ranging from chemicals to equipment. Go to www.imex.com.

Mail Boxes Etc. (www.mbe.com) takes clean used packaging styrofoam eanuts and Mail Copies in Bend (475-5656) will take any used packaging supplies.
